October 13 th, 2005 : Staff arrived in Islamabad
-We arrived in Islamabad at night via Dobai and Karach
(Pakistan’s biggest city in the south region)
-The obtained information about the affected area was that the
demand for tents was very high because of rain and winter
coming soon.
October 14 th, 2005 : Started survey of the affected
area
-It rains heavily in the city of Islamabad.
-We are now considering the support plans as below:
Supply of goods : tents (If possible, with blankets)
Area : Balakot city and the villages near Balakot
The road above is now getting recovered. Aid
clothes scattered on the ground. Everyone
welcomes friendly.
October 16 th, 2005 : Decided the area to support
-We went to Balakot for survey of the area. We also
visited the camp of Pakistan Army and attended the meeting
with NGOs with whom we expected to cooperate.
-According to a resident who walked to Balakot from
the isolated village, there were 12 Unit Councils (bunch
of several villages) in the area and 8 of them had not
received any aid yet.
October 17 th, 2005 : Discussed what support is
needed
-We went to Balakot for the second survey and attended
the meeting with the cooperating NGOs.
-We decided to support about 1500 families in Tokia,
Bojori and Patlang, having consided the followings:
1. Aid should be prioritized for people who have not
received any .
2. Sizes of the villages.
3. Whether we can check the distribution of goods.
The considered supplies are tents and blankets. Tents
can be obtained in Karach. Other necessities are also
expected to be provided with the cooperation of other
organizations.
---Water and food are rather well distributed at present,
but the supply of shelters and blankets to protect from
rain and cold is the pressing concern.
