−Learning from each other's difference−
The general image of Jordan that Japanese people have
today is unfortunately probably dark terrorism. image.
I feel that is very sad. As I felt the warmness of Jordan
people and humane characteristic, it really seems sad
to find the big distance between Jordan and Japan.
Jordan is actually safe country far from the Middle-East
image we hear from daily news. It really seems natural
to find that ordinary people have the ordinary life
just like people in Japan.
Looking at the people in Jordan, I had many moments
that I thought how much Japan have been sacrificed in
the process of economical development. That can be for
example, family bonding, or that can be enjoying the
life fully, or that can be "awe and respect"
to the big mighty power surrounding us. Funnily, people
in Jordan seem to have something about it that reminded
warm, humane character. I don't know how many times
I felt relieved by touching their sweetness especially
when I got tensed up in many phases. I was made to realize
we Japanese people had better take the things slow and
more relaxed way of life.
It is true however; that I came upon some situations
that humane character has been brought out in a wrong
direction. For example, Jordan people hardly find the
value in a character of "sensitiveness". That
made the character of people from Japan stand out; such
as consideration for others' feelings, careful work,
honest minded attitude, etc. I realized the value Japanese
people have as well as the deeper honor toward Japan.
What I like to say is the dispatch is not simply for
"helping Jordan people", but rather "a
chance for learning from each other and improving each
other". International cooperation is not one side
thing (one helps the other) but involves multiple sides
as interacting each other helps absorbing the good sides
of both and moving forward to a better way of being
a nation. This was a valuable experience as I could
find that.
Next, I like to write about the projects in Jordan
I was involved. I was supporting Japanese expertise
visiting, operational work on report and documentation
for JICA, project management and supporting creating
some permaculture brochure.
Turning back what I have done in Jordan, what I feel
first is the frustration that I could not fulfill a
role fully before everything. Therefore, now in Japan,
what I want to complete is to clarify what I got from
this activity and return to NICCO eventually in some
ways. If there is anything I could not complete and
feel unsatisfactory, I should make use of it by turning
it into some other forms; otherwise what I have done
in Jordan would be meaningless.
I doubt I may not be able to have a chance to interact
with people from Jordan in a way of "international
cooperation", however; now I think that it is not
the end of the interaction with them. Though I may not
be able to cooperate with them directly, I can think
of them in everyday life, in each case; and what is
more important is that I can always think about "what
I can do for promoting their quality of life and economy
development" even though indirectly.
Lastly, I like to express my appreciation to everyone
I owe many obligations as well as the success of the
project and development of lives in Jordan.
