Lake
Biwa Model Farm
Our model farm is located on the part of "Wani"
tributary which discharge into western part of Lake Biwa. Our
hope is for young people to enjoy the agriculture and appreciate
a grand nature by conserving Satoyama(※1), organic agriculture,
which leads to improvement of the water quality. We also hope
that the youth could pass on their knowledge and skills to the
developing countries.
Japan has rapidly absorbed Western culture since the Meiji
Period.
At the same time, Japan has lost sight of Japanese original
culture. As a result, a lot of natural woodlands near populated
area in Japan have come to ruin.We are working on this model
farm for the sake of passing on the culture and skills which had
been fostered from old times, to the next generation and people
in the developing countries.
※ 1 Satoyama is a traditional form of agricultural environment
in Japan, which refers to the forest, the rice paddies,
waterways, levees between fields, and reservoirs nearby. |

■ Organic agriculture
Organic agriculture refers to the agriculture which we consider the nature
power as it is. We try to continue making our food thorough the harmony
with nature, which leads not to contaminating nature.
|
■ Development of human resource
Recently, it is concerned that the youth is lack of knowledge and experience
about agriculture or nature. What is worse, the opportunity to touch the
nature is getting decrease. Then, we realize that we need to give the youth
those opportunities through this model farm.
|
■ Local revitalization
It is our hope that we could take an action on development of human resource,
organic farm on the basis of the character of a region. Moreover, we aim
to make the local economy revitalize based on our model farm. |
